Some peeps have asked to see my new tattoo.  This piece is in honor of Dolph, my canine hero. I chose to integrate a graphical image of Dolph into the beginning of a Japanese-style sleeve.

I love the art of Japanese body suits. I’ve long considered altering some of the traditional motifs to include personal imagery in conjunction with and in contrast to the universal themes associated with the genre.

The traditional background of cherry blossoms, wind and clouds is called Sakurafubuki. Essentially, this translates to a "cherry blossom storm".  Symbolically, the cherry blossoms are indicative of the simultaneous fragility and beauty of life.

The image of Dolph is viewed on a scroll floating through the wind. The style in which he’s depicted is in the tradition of Japanese painting of the Edo period.

Artwork and tattoo by Nick Rodin at BlackHeart Tattoo.   The work was done in 3 sessions, the last being the shortest at an hour.  Nick was an absolute joy to work with; I highly recommend him.
